23035 - Extract Data from a 2D DWG and create Topo in Revit
Просмотров 796Месяц назад
Sometimes when you have to create a topo in Revit but all you have is a 2D DWG file, this is what you can do. Use the Eattxt command in Autocad to export a CSV file with all the information you need (X Position, Y Position and Value), then in Revit, use Create Surface from Import - Specify Points File.

Can you make Boulder, Grass, and Plant a parametric one and upload it?
This will take about 43 years if I do it one by one this way, given my family library. How about a script to automate this process?
I searched far and wide and finally got the solution to deleting mullions. Thank you very much
glad I found this
is it possible to add a gate to the fence , maybe as a door family to have it visible swing in plan as well
Can you show us how to make variable corrugated steel beam?
Thank you
trying to learn dynamo here, can have a copy of yours. hehe
Satisfying
Can I set it up so that I can also see the camera view within view range?
Hi, i need your help bro, i have created floor and i have kind of pattern which has various types of tiles and various sizes, but i want to calculate actual quantity of that floor how can we
great work Bin!!
Hi can you help me - when I try to insert the frame component into the angles family it does not position itself the same as the video but rather on the side of the reference line. So when I’m in left side view I can see the whole front of the frame
Have you tried unticking the Always Vertical option in the family?
@@BINHE615 yes 😭
Thanks ❤❤❤
Hi Bin He, Thanks for the video learned a lot ! Is there a way i could have a parameter like a truss that allows me to assign a structural beam instead of the profiles you make ?
TBH I am not very sure about structural stuff. I know we can create a truss and use attach top to a roof, but not sure if it is possible to create a truss like this one.
Great video, how can make the UB to replace the 150 main member, will you like to provide the method to do it, So many thanks
You can try this: delete the main member, select the reference lines of the main member, untick the is reference to make it a model line, load it into a project, place a UB and use pick line.
@@BINHE615 thanks, i exprrt you can make video tutorials in this model
No worries, I have added this into the document.
@@BINHE615 thanks and waiting for u
Thank you so much for the lecture. Can you also edit the overall length too so that it stretches?
Since it is an adaptive family, you can select the adaptive points of the family and move them to adjust the length.
@@BINHE615thank you so much.
Can I get your WhatsApp contact if you use?
Can I please get your contact, whatsapp contact?
How can I reach you?
Hi Bin, can u research about model Heydar Aliyev on Revit, i tried anyway but can’t. Appreciate on your help !!! 🙏🙏🙏
I did briefly talk about this but I always think Revit is not the best tool to model projects like this. I've seen some other youtube videos about modelling it in Revit, give them a try.
@@BINHE615yeah i’m gonna to try but i think only way is adaptive family but it’s still not versatille
Or conceptual mass, basically the same as an adaptive family.
super work thanks a lot
thank you soooo much
you are amazing .. thank you soooo much
I keep getting a can’t regenerate family error
This could be because your form is too curved and intersecting with itself, or maybe Revit doesn't understand the sequence of your profiles. If you post an image, I may be able to help.

شكرا لك 😍😍😍😍 ياريت تزودنا اكثر مثل هذه الافكار سهلت علينا الكثير من الأعمال مشكور
Bin … Why did u uncheck shared parameters although they have different names ?
There are pros and cons of shared family. For example you will be able to Tab and select the individual frame and edit its parameter if it is loaded into a project as a shared family. However, in this exercise, I want to have that parameter (radius of the individual member) as part of massing family, I have to untick the shared to make it a normal family, then associate that parameter with a parameter in that massing family.
Hi Bin, I've been following your lessons and may I ask how did you learn all of this and maybe some tips on how to get started in this field? Thanks a lot!
Basically, I started to learn Revit by myself in 2014 by following some books. Then I completed a three-year TAFE drafting course, gained 7.5 years of working experience in an architecture firm, and completed a three-year Architecture Bachelor's course. Additionally, I recorded more than 1350 Revit video tutorials. This is how I learned all of this. I think the most helpful parts for me, and probably for you as well, are a proper drafting course followed by some working experience. If you are going to work as a draftsperson in an architectural firm, focus on basic building components and documentation techniques instead of massing, adaptive, and pattern-based families, which are more useful for architectural students.
@@BINHE615 Yes, you're definitely right. I see that you've been through a lot, hence, the impressive video lessons. Actually, I'm leaning towards Revit MEP as my main but I also want to learn Revit Arch as my secondary. That is why your videos are good foundation for us who are just starting in this field. It's practical and straightforward. That's why I enjoy following lessons. Keep it up Bin. I hope you can make videos on building components as well 🙂. Thank you very much!
Hi Bin, about the picture the asker showed.. could you show us how to adapt this pattern to that shape and the ridged edges? How do you do the frame structure under a roof like this?
I think we just need to add some more points into the spline through points so we can create the shape similar to that roof. I could be trick for the structure, I think adaptive family might work.
thanks a ton for this!
❤
thank you! please keep doing more vids on Revit custom family creation -- there is very little advanced tutorials on this part of revit.
I just discovered this gem, ur amazing Bin keep up the good work!
good
Thanks Bin. This is helpful
Cool❤
Great, but i want to know the difference between generic family and line base family for curtain wall mullion. And which one is better and function in rear project and easy to modify the profile and many thanks 😊
I think curtain wall is usually easier, it really depends on what your real project is. If you can post some examples on the shared document docs.google.com/document/d/14UDBuC-dM-GcAC8kh2MKaKFt8cScus_ZTA1t7cEvYM0/edit#heading=h.b5cis5jsfs8k we can discuss further.
Hi Bin He Setting the reference quota is very simple. The model does not move, but the reference altitude of the project is linked to the sea level altitude. 0 Work in a section view 1 Unpin Survey Point, so it stays there, and it doesn't move down. 2 Go to Manage Project Location Coordinates Specify coordinates at point 3 Select the level Specify Shared Coordinates New Coordinates Elevation input the value set OK 4 check it out with Spot elevation relative to Project base point and Survey Point Best regards RMN
Thank you very much, Robert, I will have a try.
Jaaah … great … 1000 thanx Bin After I ‘ve watched yours , I think the best is to move the topo down without messing with levels and only change the project base point elevation For edit points after-wise no worry: from 2024 and up you can show the points relative to : * current level * project base point * survey point * internal origin (??) Usually when you do a project (in school I mean) you start with the building first and then build up the topo later, thus it might be difficult to move the building up. It’s easier to move the topo down By the way the topo solid has some capabilities, but the topo surface is still more accurate than the topo solid. Luckily you can convert the topo surface into topo solid in R24, R25 …. I Wonder why Autodesk doesn’t fix the bug before they continue issuing new versions ! Thanks,
Thanks for the input, Samer. I am always a bit nervous about all the levels, PBP, and SP issues since I have not had any real work experience on large projects. I mostly work on small projects and don't want to mislead people in any way. We are still on 2023 and will probably go straight to 2025, hopefully getting a better topo tool.
Very Good!
The reason why you couldn't move the object vertically in the first place is because "Constrain" was checked. Uncheck it, and you can move it regardless of the Work Plane.
No, the constrain here means you can only move the object in orthogonal directions, you won't be able to move an element in the direction perpendicular to the associated work plane.
Hello! I need assistance resolving an issue in Revit. When I change the height of one wall, it affects another wall even if it’s not selected. How can I ensure that only the wall I pick is modified
Not sure, I need more information.
For some reason I have 30 steps and I keep getting an error that says cant create sweep. I am having issues with the reference points in elevation
Can you give me a bit more information so I can help you? Alternatively, you can also use "support" for solid handrail.
Thank you so much
You are welcome.
Thanks for the tutorial. I am having one problem... When try to recreate work flow in a project my material parameters for my curtain panel are read-only. Dynamo script runs and reports error that material parameters are read-only. Do you know possible solution? Cheers
Is is a model- in-place in a project? It will not work. You can copy it into a conceptual mass and run the Dynamo there.
Jesus, that formula :/
💚💚💚
ps I hope you're enjoying architecture school
Thank you.
hi thank you. I have a question... when i moved the point up, the bottom face of the roof stayed level (in other words only the points on the top face moved up to create the profile, so ended up with a kind of mass with a flat bottom and profiled top... Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Oh I just realized this video was uploaded 3 years ago. Doh!
Select the roof - Edit Type - Edit Structure - Untick the Variable option
Thank you very much teaching us!
excellent ,
